The success of the Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi will depend on the skills of the people deployed by the Organising Committee. Through attracting, selecting and retaining the best possible resources, the OC can look forward to conducting an outstanding edition of the Commonwealth Games. The general staffing strategy will be centred on inducting a team of full-time paid staff (in some cases international resources) for each Functional Area who would be supported by volunteers. In addition to the paid staff and volunteers, the OC may recruit external consultants and advisors both from India as well as from other countries who will interact and work closely with the paid staff and bridge the gap in areas where external professional assistance is required. While domestic capacity building is essential, having a team of external experts would act as a catalyst in the process and will also enable early embedding of leading practices in management of such a large-scale event. This will also assist in strengthening domestic capacities for future conduct of multi-sport events in India.
