15 March 2010: 17 March 2010 marked the “200 days to go” milestone for the XIX Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi. This milestone is an important one, leading up to the Games in October 2010. This is the perfect platform to generate maximum awareness about the Games by involving the public and spread enthusiasm among the people of Delhi and India to become proud hosts for the Games.

Keeping in mind the significance of this milestone and the significance of reaching out to and involving common public in the lead up to the Games, the OC CWG Delhi 2010 plans to organise an event on 21 March 2010 with an aim to involve the people of Delhi and generate enthusiasm and awareness for the Games.

This event will be a fun-filled day for the entire family, wherein they can enjoy the event featuring art, culture, food, festivities and the spirit of the XIX Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi.

Other details of this event are as below:

  • The venue for this event will be the India Gate lawns.
  • This event will involve artists (painters) of Delhi painting on a 200 ft canvas (since the event celebrates 200 days to go) with the theme “XIX Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi – Game for Green”.
  • Almost 50 to 100 top artists of Delhi along with other professional artists will be invited to come and paint on the occasion of 200 days to go such as Mr. Satish Gujral. He will inaugurate the event with the first brush stroke on the canvas.
  • Eminent personalities from the field of culture and sports will be invited to paint.
  • These paintings will be on display for the day at the venue and will later on, be put on display at a suitable place during the Games.
  • To encourage greater participation, there will also be a kite flying event going on simultaneously.
  • Kites will be designed as per Delhi 2010 Image and Look programme carrying titles like “200 days to go” and “Green Games”.
  • The general public will also be encouraged to fly kites.
  • For children, there will be merry-go-rounds, balloons, larger-than-life size puppets, etc.
  • There will be food stalls around for all visitors.
